Ralph Reznick (MDEQ), Patrick Ertel (MDNR), and Rob Myllyoja (Stantec)
A three (3) hour pre-conference workshop will review the basics of bankfull discharge, channel dimensions, pattern, profile, and materials as an introduction for engineers and policymakers. The workshop will commence with a discussion about the critical importance of proper assessment of channel morphology, hydraulics, and sediment transport to stream ecology, habitat evaluations, watershed planning, and stream restoration design. Standard assessment methods will be reviewed along with application to common stream projects. MDNR will discuss a case study of the morphological analysis performed on the Pigeon River as a prelude to the Friday field trip. Relevant draw prizes will also be provided.
